PREVENTION OF TRADE/LABOUR DISPUTES (IPAPU)
In addition to its functions as a tribunal, the DDPR is also tasked with the responsibility to prevent trade/labour disputes from arising or escalating. In order to carry out this mandate, the DDPR established within it structure, the Industrial Peace Advisory and Promotion Unit (IPAPU).
The unit provides and offers training workshops and presentations to both the Employers and Workers on various Labour Law subjects. It also provides day-to-day questions to workplaces concerns and queries, for guidance and clarity. However it does not provide advice on potential or actual cases that are likely to be or have already been referred to the DDPR.
The unit has designed the following training modules:
- Basic concepts of Labour Law
- Proper conduct of disciplinary hearing for misconduct cases
- Preparing your case for DDPR hearing
- Trade union and management relations at workplace
- Sexual harassment at workplace
- Workplace grievance handling
These are offered at a fee upon request by the interested Employers and Workers or their groupings.
Presentations are offered free of charge and they maybe on various Labour Law / Labour relations related subject/topics tailor made for the requesting Employer/s or Worker/s.
IPAPU also develops reading materials such as brochures and newspaper articles based on availability of funds. It also provide education through radio talks and presentations.
IPAPU’s offices are only found in Maseru at the DDPR’s Head Office, 8th Floor, Post Office Building and operates Monday – Friday; 08:00 – 16:30HRS but is flexible to alter the operating hours on negotiations with the users.
